Question 1600 Classic valve train noise

I have a 2004 Vulcan 1600 Classic. Its has a loud clatter coming from the front of the engine. I have Vance Hines exhaust and can hear it clearly so it is loud. It gets louder the longer I ride. I took it to a local mechanic. He said it is normal but I've noticed it getting louder since then. Iam concerned. I checked for loose parts-radiator cover etc. Is anyone else having to deal with this? I can use all the help I can get. Thanks Richard

I prefer a more-modern valvetrain-noise over the "Classic" style.........

My guess would be a loose valve clearance or cam chain

Kawi mechs are notorius for saying serious noises are "Normal." My old klr was knocking harder than any diesel Ive ever heard and after having my bike for a month, they said "oh thats normal." Took it to another shop and it had a pitted crank. Replaced under warranty, sounded fine after.

I've added "engine oil" to the motor to reduce valve clatter on several bikes over the years.

The following press release came in from Klazy Ken Enterprises earlier this week:

"Devastated by the results of the recent Presidental elections, Klazy Ken has left on a six-week sabbatical to Alaska, where he will shoot caribou from airplanes and club baby seals with his longtime friend and spiritual advisor, Todd Palin. Klazy Ken had poured his heart and soul into the McPalin campaign, as well as several million dollars in campaign contributions. "America stupid, they not take McCain Seminar!

Klazy Ken also stated his deep concerns for the continued viability of Klazy Ken Enterprises with the upcoming Democratic controlled White House and Legislature. "What next, these Socialist a-holes going to start buying up banks? Dumping money into failing businesses? And they call me Klazy??"

Klazy Ken has also indicated he will tour various nations to study their viability as a new location for his business; including Bora Bora, Cambodia, or possibly Albania.
