I have a 2004 Vulcan 1600 Classic. Its has a loud clatter coming from the front of the engine. I have Vance Hines exhaust and can hear it clearly so it is loud. It gets louder the longer I ride. I took it to a local mechanic. He said it is normal but I've noticed it getting louder since then. Iam concerned. First off, how many miles are on the bike? If its got alot, you may want to look into the lifters, they are hydraulic lifters and may be close to collapsing. Iv seen this happen before but not sure if this is your problem.

Not knowing where you live and what weight oil you use, but its better to use a 10w30 rather than say 20w50.It
takes less time to get to the head, in turn lubricating quicker. Hate to be the barer of bad news but If it is a lifter issue the engine will need to come out? Hope this helps.
