I gotta agree with you there. However, although I knew those valves were gonna be in spec. every time I checked, I still had to check. What an ass pain.

I'm still waiting for an explanation of why variable valve timing is something that is so desirable in the first place. Or is it just technology for technology's sake?

Look at the motor in the Mustang. The 4.6L v-8. 300 HP and 320 ft-lbs on pump gas (87) from a 281 c.i. engine. The peak #'s are not the relevant part, but the fact that this little bitty motor starts pulling at 2000 RPM, torque peaks at 4500, and peak HP is at 5500, just before redline. It makes a big, huge, broad, Fat A$$ed torque curve. Acts like a much bigger motor.
