I'm also concerned with people buying bikes and wrecking them. Back in 1986 I bought my GSXR1100. The 1100 was my #1 bike for 15 years and 110,000kms. I've still got it and it's still a great bike. I also sprung for a GSXR1000 when they came out in 2001. I do ride for fun and I've had lots of it on these two machines. Neither one has been crashed. It's great that we're able to own these machines. I have to agree with your statement about government stepping in. The people who are spoiling it for everyone are mostly short term thrill seekers. You know who you are. Why don't you get out of bikes before you wheelie it over backwards?

I have an '01 GSXR1000 and while it is not nearly as practical (or comfortable) as the dozen or so I owned before it, I hardly consider it a piece of junk. At 10k miles it is still faster and more entertaining every day. I do, however, long for those days when the sight of a beat up hulk of a bike for sale on the side of the road was enough to get my heart pounding, I could almost feel the road underneath me. Now all I want to do is go faster down that particular set of twisties, even as I feel more and more mortal every day. I could see myself keeping this one for 25k, no problem. On the other hand, maybe I'll grow up first. But this is not a throwaway bike by any strech of the imagination.
