So I bought a 1983 Honda Magna V45 750 a couple of months ago. Got it really cheap, for a couple of hundred dollars with the intentions of fixing it up. I am just now getting around to it.
Problems: -Choke doesn't work(assuming the cable needs replacing?) -Bike won't start with out starting fluid Are these things mutually related? Once I use starting fluid and get the bike up and running it will stay running until I kill it off. It will even start up every now and again with out having to use starter fluid. I am trying to decide if its this or whether the carbs need to be rebuilt. Any assistance would be phenomenal. |

Yes, the two things are probably related. The choke gives a richer mixture until the engine warms up.......which is similar to what you are doing with the starting fluid. Fix the choke first. Then drain the old fuel out of the tank and float bowls, if you haven't already, and put a double dose of Berrymans B12 Chemtool in with fresh gas. Over a couple of days, with occasional running, that should clean the carbs out. Things will work better, probably, with the stock air filter in place too.
