Hi,
I have a VF 1100c, and after an engine rebuild it only fires on two cylinders (1 and 3). I think it's down the the camshaft alignment and the camchain, but as the engine has no marks, it is impossible for me to readjust it myself. Is there a simple solution? -- Pebbles. |

Since the engine is the interference type you can damage the valves if the cam is wrong. You need the manual which shows the exact procedure. Clymer makes one. It's about $30. That's a lot cheaper than $2000 for a top end replacement.

Hi, and thanks for the quick reply.
I have the Haynes manual, but I find the explanation and procedure in there quite complicated (English is not my first language), can you shed any light on that? |

Haynes manuals are uniformly terrible. Only buy a Haynes manual if no other manual is available. The Clymer manual has good pictures showing the cam alignment and followable step-by-step procedures.
I did the cams on my 700 Magna a couple of times but the procedure is quite complex and difficult so I can only tell you that you need the proper manual. Even then you'll probably have to seat them and recheck them several times to get it right. It's one bytch of a job and another reason that I said good riddance to the Magna.

I have worked that much out myself already. I'll get hold of a Clymer manual next week, thank you
![]() We all know it is a hard job (it is when you have the marks), but it has got to be done. Thanks again ![]() |
