I have searched a few threads but can't find anything I don't already know and would appreciate help from experienced Magna owners.
I just purchased a brand new, 0 mileage, '95 Magna 750. It now has 54 miles on it. When I first picked it up I had to give it full choke and closed throttle to get it to start. I had to ride it at half throttle until warm. I drove it home for 51 miles and it seemed to run OK. I put it away for the winter and now trying to get it ready for the season but it won't start. No gas was left in the carbs. The engine turns over and fires at full choke / closed throttle but will not start. Open the throttle and no fire. No choke and it will not fire. From what I know, it seems to be starving for fuel. This bike sat in a warm class room since 1995 with no gas ever put in so I can't believe that the carbs are plugged but I don't know what else to check for fuel flow. The tank is clear, fresh gas, vacuum flow check works fine. Question: Does anyone know where I can get an exploded view of the carbs? Does anyone else have trouble with fuel flow and if so, have you fixed it? Thanks, |

That you know of; sometimes it's hard to tell for sure.
Before you go tearing it apart, I suggest a healthy dose of carb cleaner, both sprayed down the throat a little at a time AND a double dose in the tank. And drain the float bowls too. There might have been water in the tank which is in the carbs now. I like Berrymans B12 Chemtool; Gumout makes a good spray. The problem with the above IS that you need to nurse it into running for the cleaner to work. The spray cleaner itself a little at a time might work for that.......or a little propane in the intake.......or small doses of starting fluid. Given the history of the bike the above might not work.......but it's worth a try. P.S. What about the battery ? I hope it's new and kept fully charged.

What was the bike doing in a classroom for 16 years? Does it have a doctorite, at least a masters? From what you say, I'd hope it's a fuel flow problem not a dirty/jamed carb issue. I'm also curious why you couldnt just fire & run it when you picked it up (last fall I'll assume).
