Default New to me 83 V45 with squeaky rear brake?

On the test ride, rear brakes squeaked. This guy was selling it for a female friend of his, and he guessed maybe it would wear off since the bike had been sitting.

Welp, I've put some miles on her now, and the squeak is still there. Not to mention that the rear brake pedal does not trigger the back brake light.

I am rather new to motorcycle maintenance, so I'd really prefer to do this myself.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Rear drum brake. You need to pull the wheel and see if the linings are shot. You need to do it right away so it doesn't damage to wheel and cause you to need a new one which will cost more than you can imagine.
