Default Help and or suggestions...

I have an old Honda 79' CB650.

Can anyone tell me why my battery is not holding a charge? Is it a short draining it or is it the equivalent alternator system within the bike itself?

Got one or two rides out of the new battery before it died again...very frustrating.

Did notice recently that lately when the bike is running, the instrument panel is not however; when stopped it lights up again. Does this point to a short somewhere??

Any advice or suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks

Put a test light in series with the battery when the switch is off and see if it lights up, it shouldn't. Put vdc meter in parrelell[sp?] when running I'm guessing it oughta be like around 14 vdc when rev'd up, it should.

Others will have more ideas. Of course there is always the old stand by of soaking the entire bike in salt water.
