Default magna V30

hi

a 1984 Magna V30 is available locally for $900

what things shld i look for when inspecting this bike (ie weak points)..wld i be better off spending another $1500 or so to buy a much newer (say: 2001-2003) midrange) bike?

AM new to riding--want to ride locally with occasional freeway: am 5'8" (so low seat needed)

my rebel was recently totalled so i wld prefer to not spend over $2500
, lest the same thing happen again (hit and run parking lot tip over)

am reluctant to buy sucvh an old bike-but--it IS cheap (altho i worry about parts- service and reliability!)

thanx.

Old Magna? Reliability sucks. Seriously. Early Magnas were highly flawed. Maintenance is a nightmare. Trannys and valve trains blew left and right. Parts are available but expensive. I learned this the hard way. Oh yeah, they run way hot too because the radiator is too small.

Most of the problems were fixed for the later 750 Super Magna. But the nightmare maintenance is inherent on the Magna V-4.

You would be better off finding something else. Even a Kawasaki 4 of the same year would be a much better choice since those seem to run forever.
