![]() All I know about it is that the local Suzuki dealer can't keep V-Stroms, either 650s or 1000s, on the showroom floor. They just fly out the door. I can't believe that the Versys wouldn't cut into that market. You want to see bikes gather dust you need look no further than the vaunted VFR.

![]() I had a 1990 Transalp 600. Honda had them here between 1990-1992 or so. Buy the Suzuki V-strom(mine is the 1000) it's a much better bike IMHO.

![]() Buy it, move to Finland, I'll give you 20k for it. Small print is you have to live here for 2 yrs before selling.

![]() I rented a Transalp, the new Euro version, in New Zealand for 2 weeks 3 years ago. It was an alright road bike with enough power and comfort to deal with Kiwi distances and the 100kph speed limit. However, it was a thoroughly treacherous bike on dirt roads, on which I rode many miles. There was simply no way to trust what the front end would do. I think that the problem had to do with the steering geometry. I now have a 650 Vstrom which is a vastly superior bike in every way. It has better power, less vibration, better suspension, better comfort, better wind protection, and better storage, instruments, etc. If you drop the tire pressures down to the equivalent of 25psi cold, the handling on dirt roads is astonishingly good. There have been times when I have had to force myself to slow down by reminding myself that I was not on a dirt bike.
I think that the poor fellow is merely pining for that which he cannot have, or perhaps trying to distinguish himself through his possesions. Both are perfectly understandable human foibles which may or may not bring him moto-happiness. Nevertheless, a Transalp cannot compete functionally with a 650 Vstrom |

![]() I wanted a Transalp too - and I live where they are freely available. Then I rode one and didn't want one any more.
Then I rode the DL650. No comparison whatsoever - the Suzuki is a far better bike (for me that is, I don't know what either is like in serious off road conditions, nor do I care). But it was just too ugly for me to buy it. (superficial, I know). Then I went and rode a used TDM850 - better again for what I want, and is now sitting in my garage. I don't understand why they don't sell by the boat-load over here. |

![]() I can't see how the price point would be much different than the new Ninja 650R. In Canada the 650R has a MSRP of $8699 and the Versys $8999. So if they sold it in the US wouldn't it be only $240 or so more than the 650R? Seems reasonable.
