It was a CB750A, and it was in the late seventies, and amazingly enough, they sold quite a few of them. As a matter of fact, I just rebuilt the carbs on one of them for a costumer and all of the parts are still available from Honda!

This whole "auto stick" thing puzzles me, and I'll never understand why the heck it's even offered. Either automatic or manual, thank you very much. But at the same time, I'm not surprised, seein' as we live in a time where "dumbing down" is far to common.

Actually PoppySTS, as a disciple of Pauli girl, I don't think you "get" anything.

Honda made, I think, a 750 semi-automatic and a 400 twin (Hi-Low range, no clutch?). To me for cars or bikes it comes down to control and maximizing performance. Unless we're talking very powerful cars manuals are faster and more efficient, ie use less engine power/fuel. You can shift faster than an automatic or smoother than an automatic but not faster AND smoother which is why, with conventional autos, some fast cars (think Vettes) are faster/quicker in a straight line with the "Auto". For me, I want a Manual for "Fun" rides/drives and an Automatic for utilitarian uses.

It is just a gimmick. The only advantage is you can hold it in each gear longer and get up into the powerband. It doesn't compare with a real 5 or 6 speed.

For the record, I'd rather have a 5spd myself. When my kids outgrow the minivan stage I'll get something interesting to drive, for now I'm stuck with something a little more prosaic.
