Default Re: Ergonomics. VFR 800 VS Yam. FZ1

the Bandit is a very popular bike, as others here have attested. I've never ridden one, so can't say much about it.

But, IMO, if you're going to buy a new bike, then you might as well buy the new technology available in the FZ or VFR than the slightly older tech in the Bandit or Katana.

After hearing what others have said, and after reading more about ABS brakes, I'm leaning toward the VFR w/ ABS.

The FZ1 is a great bike and is in many ways superior to the VFR. If I was comparing the FZ to the VFR without ABS, I'd buy the FZ1. But ABS is looking very attractive to me right now.

The additional cost of ABS seems considerable, but becomes inisignificant if it stops me from going down even once.

I just strokin' ya buddy. Only got to sit on one at the MC Show. Very compact compared to ZRX, FZ1, Bandit.

The current Rider has a 1st ride on a preproduction model.

I have to agree about the YZF600R. I would have bought that bike, but I routinely tour two up.

Default VFR valve adjustment

I know the manual only shows an adjustment at 15-16K miles, but you should have the valves checked every 15,000. Any bike that doesn't have hydraulic valves can go out of adjustment.

Not to confure you more, but for another $500 over the VFR ABS model you could get an FJR1300.

I'm 43 and own a 93 VFR750. I am 5'11". I find it a bit of a reach to the bars. It also seems a bit heavy (I test rode a 600F41i- what a difference!) On longer trips I rest on the tank bag. I'm thinking of buying a set of heli-bars (do they make much of a difference?). I tried some Gen Mar risers but the reach felt much the same.

I'm also considering another bike with a more upright position like a 919, ZRX, FZ or similar bike. I do like the looks of the new SV 1000 but I don't know how comfortable it would be. Any SV650 riders out there? How comfortable have you found it over the long haul?
