Blued pipes are also a RICH condition, the flame front follows the charge out the combustion chamber, past the valve(s) and into the exhaust head pipe, causing it to heat up and blue.



Check the plugs and go from there.

Now I'll tell you what I think of double-walled pipes that don't blue - they're for pussies!

my guess is that aftermarket pipes for a '79 GS are rather hard to come by, and that you've purchased a substandard set that is prone to discoloration. high-quality pipes will not discolor, no matter the state of tune of your bike. you may want to look for a pipe from a reputable manufacturer. the best solution to discoloration is a double-wall construction.



either that or scour ebay for OEM mufflers.
