I'm 5'5" and ride a CBR954RR...so don't worry about your height. I started on an old Katana 600, and then slowly moved up the ladder. My only advice is to start on something relatively cheap and easy to pick up off the ground, because at our height the hardest thing to learn is slow-speed parking lot maneuvers. Once you get the hang of it, tip-toeing at stop lights is second nature

Your problem will be the first shot. I have seen many people hit with their first ever .44 mag round, then flinch-itis takes over. But at the first shot they aren't intimidated yet.

USED Ninja 250, EX500 or Suzuki GS550. Spend money on good protective gear. The point is to first learn to ride - then buy any bike you want. Dani Pedrosa is 5' 1" 110lbs.

Wow! What a cool looking bike. Funny, thought... I see a little R1 style in the front fairing.

If you have the funds, the BMW F650 CS and GS models offer relatively light weight, a choice of a lower seat from the factory, excellent mileage, and great ergonomics. The GS versions will go almost anywhere.

When she grabs the pistol I'll yell "IT'S LOADED WITH .357s! IT'S LOADED WITH .357s!"

Yeah, but how many times do you see Dani stop at traffic lights?

Just funning. Height is not really as big of an issue as many think, although I can see how it would be more of a concern for a newb.

You're not that short. In general, you'll be fine on anything with a seat height 31.5" or less, but as someone else said, a taller bike like a 954RR can sometimes work too, depending how narrow it is between your legs. Just have to try them on and see. Some stuff will definitely be too tall, like the Kawi 636 or the new R6, but those aren't beginner bikes anyway.

Two you should definitely check out are the Suzuki SV650 (naked) and the Kawasaki Ninja 650R. If you're looking for a used bike, there are few better than the Suzuki Bandit 600S. If you're lucky you may also find a Bandit 400 lurking out there. GOod hunting!

my first bike was a speed triple, the learning curve was a little steep, but then I'm kinda persistant.
