Default Re: Buell XB9S vs. SV650

I would think that the geometry of the Buell would make it more agile than the SV. That said, I agree with one of the earlier replies that I really wish the Buell got itself a different powerplant. But heck what do I know- I just went out and bought a Z750-S.

I own a second-gen SV650 (that I've modified beyond recognition, but I did ride it in stock trim for a few months), and having ridden both the SV and the XB12, I can tell you this: the SV is a much smoother, easier machine to ride with a snappy and rev-happy motor. The Buell is a twitchy bastard with an ancient tractor motor that vibrates like a sex toy, which it happens to look like with its coloured plastic body panels and cheap switchgear. Gearchanges are a chore and the engine feels like it is strangled by the rev limiter. On the plus side, it handles well (once you get used to the hair-trigger chassis) and the front brake is one of the best OEM setups I've ever squeezed. The SV motor is fantastic, but the stock suspension and brakes are garbage and should be replaced with salvaged GSXR bits asap. The paint is also pretty crappy, I chipped my tank by dropping my keys on it and my oil cooler is flaking like a leper. Corrosion isn't starting yet, but its only a matter of time in my salt-crusted northern clime.

For the money of a Buell, I'd buy an SV and modify it into a backroad burner. Which I did.

Hmm, I just looked at my reply and it reads like every XB road test I've ever read. So don't anyone accuse me of being original or anything, but the journos are right about the Bew-elle :P

Default Fire in the Hole!!!!!

Damn! You really whacked a hornet's nest with this one....

Love my XB12, go with the big smoke. The money's worth it. Loud pipes on the Buell Motor just sound friggin cool. It's hard to put a price on that sound.

Reliable as a crescent wrench. Easy to maintain. Gets looks and comments EVERYWHERE. Get's respect from the Harley crowd, and stoplight to stoplight will Destroy most sportbikes. Even with my fat a$$ on board.

It's fun. Evokes all kinds of primative emotions. beyond all else, it makes me smile. After a crappy day at work, my commute home is always a shiny spot in my routine.

Pick the one that talks to YOU. and whatever you do, just ride.

Shiny side up!

Rotary damper - people looked at the rear end and thought Suzuki had stolen the door closers from the local supermarket...
