You need to place the vac***** port at the point of maximum vacuum. This would probably be point of greatest restriction, between the carbs and the engine.

Below the venturi and above the throttle blade, or at least the position where the throttle blade closes at idle.



In a pinch, it is possible to run the distributor off manifold vacuum. Not optimal, but it'll work.



Or you could just leave off the vacuum advance altogheter, particularly if this is a race motor.
