I sure am taking a beating on this thread...

Pretentious? Foolish? Disrespectful?

Your personal attacks are insulting, childish and naive.

Take that! :p

I sold my '02 Concours this past March (long, sad story) with 9k miles on it, and the motor was finally _truly_ breaking in. The tranny had been notchy up until about 7500, and it had picked up a few more ft-lbs on the bottom end in the last couple thousand miles.

There were some factory and some dealer issues that influenced my decision to sell it, (OEM fairing had broken fairing stay anchers that were taped prior to factory paint job, for one) but the Connies are great and there's a lot of support at the club level.

why did you have to mention that !

I've changed mine at 50K km.

Now I'm trying to put a Pentium fan over it (something I saw in someone's site, with pictures and everything) .

But that doesn't take anything from the bike

Across the ocean, in Portugal, where the food is wonderful, the wine better, the sun shines and the women are beatiful

Damn, oh well. I do have to agree with you about Portugal, I used to know a couple of people from there. I do have to add that where I am at the food is wonderful, the sun shines, the women are beautiful, but not exotic(to me), and the wind blows 24/7.

You are right, not all of them have the problem, the same could be said of the original Ninjas, however many of the early ones fell victims of the candy valves and seats.

That is why you should do a leak down test before you purchase an old one.

32 yrs in the saddle and having owned several BMWs and Kawis...my general experience has been the you are more likely to see BMWs with high milage that Kawis...BMW shops tend to be a little better than Kaw, but more expensive. Kaw parts may be a tad cheaper. BMW club support is maybe a bit overrated (yes, I'm a member of MOA). Both are fine machines with specific strenghts and weaknesses - those points are well known and not in dispute that this point - at least not among reasonable and informed folks.

Lots of opinions above - much smoke, not much heat.

Why not do the "Ian Smith" thing - order up every road test for each ever written in US bike press...cost you about $35 total..see the back of any bike mag. Ignore the MOron hotheads and make your own informed decision. Don't forget to look at the "COG" and "IBMWR" sites.

One final thought...after all these years, I've finally got it through my exceptionally thick skull the following: it is a HELL of a lot more important to have a good dealer than it is to have a particular brand or model of bike. If you have a fine Kawasaki dealer close by..get the Concours and enjoy. The converse equally applies. Maximize your riding time and minimize your downtime!
