Re: Advice needed: 95 Kawi Concours vs. 85 BMW K100 RS

I just signed up with AAA a couple of weeks ago. I did have to get the more expensive RV (?!?!) coverage. I got my stolen and then recovered bike towed up to my garage no problem. The guywho showed uphad no clue how to tow a bike though and I had to walk him through how to secure it but besides that it was easy and well worth the money, seeing as how you can get 100 free miles of towing that pays for itself real quick.

AAA was useful a few years back when I was all overcome with the dumba$$es and locked my keys in the car twice in a month, but what I want them to do is solve the towing problem for me. I'll pay, but I want them to find a company to do it when I'm not in my home town.

I have (limited) experience w/ both and, for the money, choose.... neither. The Kawi is a buzz bomb, heavy, and not all that comfortable. It does have that nice big fairing and huge fuel range, but the buzzy bars suck as does the seat and flaccid handling. The K-bike may last forever, but who cares.. it's the least fun bike I have ever ridden. Between the two, I like the Connie.

My advice: Find an old FJ or CBR1000 and throw bags on 'em. You should be able to do it for < 4k and have a way more fun bike.

Btw, don't you hate when you say "pick A or B", and some jack@ss picks C?

Really?!?! wow, I've never heard of that problem. I imagine you will have COG on your ass now.

I owned an "85 K 100 RS which I passed on to my oldest son. The bike has proven to be as reliable as an anvil, and has sufficient power. I now ride an '02 FLHTCUI, and although I enjoy my current ride, I miss the Beemer when I ride in the North Ga. Mtns.

Screw it, buy them both! Both great bikes! The 85 K100RS with only 36K on it is a little bothersome because of the lack of miles, but most BMW riders are fanatical about servicing their bikes. The Concours has always been my second choice! In 1995, I actually went with a K1100LT instead of the Connie! Both Buzz like hell (Connie a little worse), the K will fry your legs if you get stuck in traffic, the Connie's luggage is mighty close to BMW quality, but not quite. I agree with several of the above, ride them both, take the one that makes you grin more.

Trying to rationalize the purchase of a motorcycle is a waste of time! You don't need the thing to begin with, you want it! Buy the one that gives you better jollies!

If this helps, my current K has 78K on it with no problems, that last K racked up 95K before I got rid if her. Hate to admit this, but I like riding the Big K better than either of my Big Harleys, what can I say....but the Harleys can carry more stuff (even if I don't count the sidecar on the '88) than the BMW!

I had a 94 Concours that I bought new and sold in 99. Nice bike, but it was outdated looking 10 years ago. The BMW was a new design in 85 and is still kind of funky cool today. I'd go with the K bike, but offer several hundred less than $4100. If you have $4100 and like BMW sport tourers, you should be able to find plenty of newer Ks or even early oilheads with fewer miles.
