Re: Top Speed Shootout Question
One day, with a tailwind so strong it actually knocked over a bike in the pits, I was able to see 182 (indicated) on an R1. It was still climbing, albeit veeeery slowly. This was at Spokane Raceway, the straight is probably near a mile long. At the same track on another day i wasn't even able to see 170 on a newer 2002 R1. I'm sure the wind was what made most of the difference though, since the windspeed was far more than the difference in the speed of the 2 bikes.

The day i tried the 2002 R1 there was also a guy there an a GSXR1000, granted he was a better rider and coming onto the straight with slightly more speed than me, he smoked me down the straight, put at least a second on me just there, maybe 2.

I've also ridden an RC51 and Mille R at that track but i don't remember the exact top speeds i saw, i believe they were somewhere around high 160's to low 170's, not too much faster than my R6.

Re: Other top speed
Over 160 as indicated by your speed-O-meter? Or by someone with an accurate way of gauging, ie radar, stop watch, etc? I'm sure you're aware that many factory bikes gauges read very optimistically at highier speeds. Is your bike stock or heavily modified?

Take care,

Re: Top Speed Shootout Question
I think that the HD Roadmaster is the fastest production bike made today. It just needs one slight modification. One only has to load the saddlebags full of the proper amount of explosives, slam the lid hard, and hang on brother. I believe that the ACME Company makes that particular modification.

Re: Top Speed Shootout Question
I own a 2002 R1 and the fastest indicated speed I have seen on it is 188mph,a few times with a tail wind.During normal days it is around 182-185,depending on how much I can tuck my 205 pounds under the screen.....Before I bought this one I owned a 1990 FZR 1000 and the fastest I did on it on the same road was 175mph.And this was stock for both bikes.

Fastest? Who Cares?
What about the bikes with the slowest top speeds? Four-stroke, over 500cc, what do you think?

Re: Top Speed Shootout Question
alright........all this crap about indicated is just that. carp. hell my badnit has seen 175 really closer to 145-150. every bike is somewhere from 4-15% off in speedo much ***** would you give a manufacturer if you got a speeding ticket when your bike said you were goin the limit.....

the busa and 12R are always right there together, depending on year tested and which bike is on boil that flip flops every test it seems. the blackbird is off that pace, hell its questionable it was even faster then the zx-11. the GSXR-1000 gets radar'd at ~180, this would put it comfortably ahead of the blackbird, at around 176 last time i saw a top speed for it.

i have never seen a RC-51 radar'd above 167

these are just numbers im pullin from the magazine issues........only way i know to get radar numbers

Re: Top Speed Shootout Question
The bikes are all limited now too including the Busa and the 12R (note Sport Rider's 99 Busa speed just shy of 190). [Speedo readings are useless anywhere over 120 or so.] Most are easy do delimit though and some of the UK mags have tested in this manner. Most will agree that the 12R is up a bit on hp, but the Busas aerodynamics give it the nod top speed. Past that the GSXR1000 is real close to those two with the R1, XX, ZZR/ZX11 in another pack and the RC51, ZX9, CBR, Ducati a bit further back. My delimited (shhh) 01 GSXR1000 pulls hard past 170 and is able to post low 180s on my GPS. My 00 Busa (sold to a friend) is nip and tuck up to 160 or so, then it begins to walk away. Note that all testing is done under controlled circumstances and objects well ahead of you are closer than they appear.
