Do I need a PCIII

I just bought a used 2007 GSXR 1000. The cat has been removed and it has a PCIII. When I run it in full mode and have to slow down, it back-fires. Is this because of the PCIII? Also I do not race AT ALL. Should I even keep the PC III on the bike? Does the removal of the cat have anything to do with the back-firing? And will this effect the bikes performance in a negative way? I know its alot of questions but I dont have much of a mech background and the guy I bought it from couldnt explain.
Thanks

Do you have a full exhaust?

If it's backfiring, then the PCIII isn't mapped appropriately. It needs a different mapping. The PCIII itself isn't the culprit.

Yes. It has a full Leo Vince system.

Find a complete stock system on Craigslist or ebay pull the PC3 and go back to stock then sell the Leo Vince system and make your money back. The bike will sound and run better and you'll have money for important things like tires and oil changes.

Depending on how much backfiring your getting, its normal. If its not alot then your fine, and its tuned properly no matter what anyone here says. Again depending on how much backfiring your getting its normal to get it on deceleration only. If your getting it on acceleration that usually indicates an airleak. If your really down shifting quickly and slowing really fast you will get some backfiring. Just take it to a dyno and have them run it-ultimately in the end that will save you alot of heartache and tell you if its correct. I have never owned a carbd or fuel injected bike that didnt back fire slightly when down shifting-they were all dyno tuned race bikes and street bikes with full exhaust.

Let me know how it turns out bro!

So.....despite the factories spending hours on the dyno and hours and millions of bucks on cad/cam design and NC milling machinery to get the engine weight down and performance up to a razer sharp gnats ass while still being EPA compliant, you think slapping on some dipsh*ts "performance" exhaust and f*cking with the fuel map is going to improve matters?

The backfire ain't the bike pod'yo, it's your brain fart.....
