There are three wires going into the tail light bulb. A black, solid blue, and a red w/ yellow stripe. I need to figure out which is for the running iight, as I'm going to tap into it for these LED license plate do-dads. My guess is the red w/ yellow stripe, but that is just a guess.
As always thanks for your help. |

FWIW, a wiring diagram for your bike will have the wire colors. It WILL come in handy even if you don't think you'll be doing any electrical work. So it will be worth while to find one.

If nobody knows the color offhand, I can tell you how to find the right one without ruining the wires:
The best way to tap the wires is with a couple of "Posi-Taps." They have a pointy end that pierces the insulation as you screw it into the wire. Once you do that, you can use a meter or a simple 12vdc test light with a ground to find which is the running light. These "Posi-Taps" are the greatest invention since the cheezeburger. Here's a link for a kit, you can probably find them at the parts store too: Amazon.com: Posi-Products Wire Connector Kit 6 tap connectors for 10- to 22-gauge wires Tap into wires without cutting or stripping: Electronics
