When I say that Harley should be worried, I speak in a general sense, including Harley in with every other current vehicle manufacturer. They'll likely do what you are doing - laugh at the improbabilities and go right on doing business.

Roll back a century, though, and the IC car was in exactly the same position as this electric vehicle. Compared to a horse, it was slow, super-expensive, costly to run and maintain and covered a fraction of the ground a horse could cover. Only the ultra-rich bought them as larks, but look at where that start led to.

The writing is on the wall for the IC engine. Rising oil prices, fierce competition for remaining supplies, an emerging superpower with over a billion citizens who all want cars just like the Americans ... pretty soon it won't matter that gasoline is one of the most efficient forms of energy we now know of.

Besides, this car is almost right in line with current exotic cars, both in performance and price. I could easily say that Ferraris won't sell because they cost 400K, cost 5K a tuneup and get 12 mpg ... but they pre-sell virtually every car months before it is made. What is exorbitant for you and I is peanuts to the idle rich that this car is being marketed to.

Your argument is only true if we continue to get 100% of our energy from fossil fuels. That isn't the case even now and certainly won't be the case 50 years from now. Every year the percentage coming from renewable sources rises ...

LOL. No, I don't work for the government. I'm in IT.

Don't get me wrong, I love the sound of a v-twin all wound up ... precisely why I bought one and am spending months deciding on what pipes to buy so that I can tailor the sound to my liking. I'm down on the sound. Heck, I even like a thumper.

That being said, I had to close my patio doors in 100F heat today so that I could hear my TV and stereo over the hundred or so open-piped cruisers that hit main street to toddle back and forth all day long. I've lived downtown in my city for five years and I'm starting to get literally crazy with the noise. Between the sirens, the honking and the super-loud bikes, I can easily see a day where I move out to the silence just to keep my sanity.

On the louder days, a super-torquey electric motorcycle that is utterly silent and that I plug in at the end of the day starts to sound pretty damn cool to me.

That I can easily see. Laptops melt or ignite quite often and they use the same battery tech.

Nonetheless, it isn't like there hasn't been severely unsafe IC cars. Pinto? 1980-1989 Ford Escort?

What did you buy?

I was presuming by your handle that you had a Triumph.

Don't sell your cubes short there. H-D is offering a big bore kit for the new 96" already. If it's anything like the last kit, figure the 1600 becomes a 1700 or thereabouts.

Default I'm the new motorcycle prohylactic

H-D doesn't miss a trick. The new kits will pump your 96 to a 103 (1690 cc) or 110 (1800 cc).

Check it out here

I bought a Thruxton, so I'm deciding between the Bub 2-2 system, which I would have ceramic coated to match the black bike, or Predators.

Sorry, I see now where you are going with your question. I meant to say I bought a twin, not a v-twin. The v-twin is this coming spring when I pick up a Ducati.

Well you might want to start perusing ferraci.com just for fun.

I've got the FBF Forza pipes on my Duc and that thing Booms! Gets a Harley guy's conchos a-quivering.
