You're right. Folks gravitate to sportbikes as they get older. Usually smaller ones like 600's that shouldn't be revved over 9 grand. I'm sure the biggest market for sportbikes is old people. Yeah, that makes sense now. I had it all backwards. I'm glad you are so smart after a whole year of riding. If your latest prediction is anything like your superbowl prediction, Harley can certainly look forward to a long and prosperous future.

I invented the banjo. That's why I paid cash for my Electra Glide, Mr. Canuck.

As eloquent as Poe himself however you'll never get the Harley haters on board even though the Japanese would kill for the kind of brand loyalty Harley achieves.

Question for squids: Name another brand-name (Coca-cola, Honda, Jergens) which people tatoo on their bodies?

So much money for so much crap. If there were a Nobel Prize for image marketing, H-D should win it.

Nice post. I agree that if Harley continues to court it's traditional cruiser crowd, they are in for a rude awakening in a few years if they don't come up with something new - a new niche to draw in a different, if not younger crowd.

The V-rod is a big step in the right direction. If you look at why Harley succeeded while others failed in the last 100 years, it was because they stayed in tune with leading edge technology (and when they didn't stay in step, they fell off badley). The V-rod is a first step to reclaim that heritage. They now need to take it to the next level. Perhaps a sport-touring twin based on the V-rod, ala the Aprilia Futura? Wild, but it just might work. OK, call me crazy...

Actually I think Honda has better JD Powers numbers than Harley. When I talk to Honda owners who have had other brands (Harley etc) they say they will never go back. I think Gold Wing owners are probably the most loyal.

I did thanks but I still agree with him. Sooner or latter it will catch up to Harley. V-Rod was a start but they have to develop a family of liquid cooled V-Twins that appeal to Gen Xers and Ys. Not everyone is 45-60 with a gray pony tail.
