Yea go ahead and waste your money on a new harley. Chances are you'll lose it in about a year, and the insurance will total it because "it won't ride the same".

Like the other posts you'll drop it 3-6mths, more than likely while you're moving it around in the drive way.

Don't forget about the cost of maintenance, harley's are the highest maintenance bike, honda being the least.

Think about what kind of riding you want to do. I have a 99 Harley Road King and it's a great bike when I want to load it up and go touring with my wife. I can relate to the guys who hate all the Harley hype, it makes me gag too, but they are good reliable bikes. My other bike is a 93 Honda Nighthawk 750. It's my choice when I want to go out for a shorter fun ride on a weekend morning. I'd recommend something like my Honda for a first bike, you see used ones for sale in the 2500 to 3000 range all the time. Then if you decide you really like riding, you can always get a Harley later. (Maybe in 2004 when sales are down because everyone paid big $$$ for a 2003!)

Cost of maintenance is an important consideration! My Experience is that Harleys are not to bad, but whoa baby, look out for BMWs high dollar maint.

Yamaha XV535 Virago is a pretty cool little bike, discontinued a couple years ago. Cheap, easy to ride, H-D-type cruiser looks but much lighter and easier to control as you learn the ropes...

You will do fine. The seats are low on a harley cuz lots of the riders have short legs and also short penises. The bikes that make the most noise usually have the riders with the shortest. They need attention they can't get any other way.

Also try to look like your homeless, (scuvy) so you will look right on your new harley

Damn all you people to hell! I've never ridden a motorcycle before, but I want to start on an 883 just because I love the way it sounds, especially at idle!

Damn straight! I'll get my Harley urge outa the way, and then start riding other bikes.

Damn right!
