ship building, locomotives, bombers, I don't think they made any fighters but I could be wrong. In the AMF years Harley made golf carts [chortle] and damn fine ones too, by golly!

Everyone likes to rip Microsoft, but I don't see anyone knocking them out. If they were that bad they wouldn't be around. I am not a Microsoft fanatic, but their products beat anything else out there feature for feature. Excel is an inceredible product. You could spend 10 years mastering everything it could do. Same with Harley. People talking about 35 years ago and still repeating the same old tired cliches. Harley is one of the most advanced production facilities and tightly run businesses anywhere.

Yeah I'd stick to the aircraft engine makers. Regarding Longride's comment to you, now the know-it-all thinks he's a software expert. Anyone with an ounce of brains knows that Microsoft is pre-eminent because of superior marketing.

You might be surprised by the specific output of many general aviation engines. A current spec Cessna Skyhawk has a 160 hp (at 2400 rpm) Lycoming engine of some 361 cubic inches displacement. It's an air cooled, fuel injected, flat four configuration weighing approximately 270 pounds. In comparison, the plane itself weighs about 1600 pounds empty (and can carry an approximately 800 pound payload). This is a very high quality powerplant but is certainly not high tech.

These engines are mostly operated at constant throttle at (relatively) high altitudes so they are designed to be reliable, economical and durable. They're closer in design to a marine or tractor (or Harley-Davidson or Moto Guzzi) engine than you might think...

Uh, if I remember correctly, Longride knows a ton about computers, including programming in several languages.

Default It's a kit plane, guys

You can choose your own engine. Hog-air just builds the kit for you with the HD engine. See Zenith Air, the kit builder to see the other engine choices, including Rotax, Lycoming and Continental.

It's 400 man-hours of labor if you do it yourself!
