>>It'd be a shame to restrict your 900 to track only, as I've read it's the most useably street-sport Ducati makes.<<

You are absolutely right -- problem is that when I started modifying it, I didn't know when to stop ... went with 988 cc kit, ti rods, something like 13.5:1 compression (probably should only run it on race gas, although it seems to be OK on premium) short intakes with big Kiehin carbs with velocity stacks (no filter), porting, big ti valves, lightweight clutch basket and flywheel, etc (spent more on modifications than the original purchase price ... really stupid!). Also went with Marchichini (sp?) wheels and Ohlins shock (the best bang for the buck, BTW).

Aside from the noise level, and some reservations about running it on premium unleaded, this motor would actually be a great street motor, as it has monster torque down low, but still pulls strongly past redline (stock, the power plummets at about 7000) so you don't have to worry that much about being in the right gear. The suspension and brake mods would also work great on the street.

I built it to race in Colorado, where the rules allowed unlimited displacement aircooled 2-valve twins in middleweight twins -- the bike would have been pretty competitive. I have since moved to No CA and in AFM, I would be in the same class with RC51s, 998s etc -- no chance! So, I really do want to figure how to get it quiet enough to put it back on the road.

Well, I figured you might come up with that in the face of facts. Yeah they all lied back then. Ok, you win.

Sounds like a real screamer, I'd guess using the stock head pipes and some kind of street can would be your best option, with the other mods you've made you probably won't notice a power drop w/ the stock header/performance can set-up, Also running an airbox and filter is going to quiet the intake noise, a little octane booster and your set,, I'd hate to be the one who tries to race you on the street on a 999 0r Mille` LOL !!!
