Didn't pretty much everyone outlive the Volare?? Your dad should have gotten an AMC Pacer or Gremlin. Then he'd be fuggin cool.

that bike is sex on wheels, but as a new rider I'd aim a little less high maintenance, i stuffed my brand new speed triple into a ditch the first week i had it, cought some gravel and low sided @ about 20 mph. in retrospect, it was not a real good beginers bike, insurance was cheap and other than a few scuff marks the bike survived, let's hear it for naked durability.. perhaps a monster is more in the cards?

besides, its a lot easier to embarass a supersport rider in real world situations on a liter class naked than you might think, how often can you actualy use 150 + anyways?,

I guess it all boils down to how well the bike was maintained, I think it is fair to assume that with that much money in suspension, and that many miles on the clock it may have been used for more than just lazy sunday drives (look for safety wire holes!!!) ie significant track time..

I like any bike that can pull a wheelie, but i prefer naked sportbikes for the performance, agility, and everyday ergonomics.

buy what you want and be happy, don't end up with someone elses dreambike.

That's the thing about this bike. I was always kinda interested in motorcycles but what really did it for me, what made me want a motorcycle more than anything was when I laid eyes on a picture of a red ducati 916 screaming across the cover of a motorcycle magazine when I was about 12 years old. I still have that old issue.

That is the problem I'm having, I can afford this particular duc so I just want to buy it but know that it has high miles so maybe it's not a good idea. My heart might overcome my better judgement on this one.

no one has enough common sense or maturity for a first bike, thats whats cool about em, think about it, first car, first house, first girlfriend, the first motorcycle fits right into the bitersweet procesion, break your self in on an 80's ujm, pick em up for 800 bucks, after that the duc will drive itself and you will really apreciate the new technology. be like crawling into bed with a porn star. When you wreck the beater, just take the plates off and walk away.

Just buy it. You only live once. Better judgement would probably buy a used Honda Civic.

I think that's GSXR1000 guys.

SV1000 riders are typically quite close to grandfatherhood.

It sounds like you make a decent enough living to handle the maintenance. $5700 ain't exactly a king's ransome to just get the damn thing.

I'd grind the guy on the price though. The used bike market is in the tank due to all the special low interest deals on new ones right now. Tell him that you know the 24k service is coming up and that's a biggie and the rubber is shot.

Trust me his phone ain't ringing off the hook. Now stop peeing down your leg and lo-ball him.
