Every time I've taken mine in for service the mechanic hands me the keys and says "this is the best one." He says the engine will last forever and the valves rarely are out of adjustment.

All you have to do is google Gary Eagan.

That being said I don't know much about the 748 but the higher RPM thing makes sense.

The Green Frame 750ss has increased quite a bit in value. Nostalgia is an unpredicatable thing though.

The year I was born, my dad's friend bought a 1964 Corvette, 327 with 4 speed tranny. My dad said he though his buddy was crazy to spend $5500 on a car. (Of course his buddy was single, I don't think dad got that part).

25 years later the guy still owned the car and it was worth considerably more.

Hopefully your dad has taken good care of that Volare! The ones with Corinthian leather are especially desirable!

Default Ducati grandkids vs. Suzuki grandkids

That's true only because SV1000 riders never live long enough to procreate 'cause they are always riding wheelies on the interstate at 150 mph in shorts, tank tops, and sandals.

But seriously......no actually, I don't have anything serious to add.

Thanks for all the input so far! It's really helpful.

To answer a few of the questions and comments I've recieved here goes.

First this is going to be my first bike. I know I know bad choice but I feel that I have enough commonsense, maturity, and experience with other high powered machines to take on this challenge. Let's put it this way if I dont' buy this one it's a R6 or a 636 or something.

The Bike is the regular 748 as far as I can tell the actual price is $5750 and it's got akrapovic Ti exhaust, showa TiNi forks, and a aluminum subframe. According to him the vavles were just done before he rode it to laguna also. Although I guess since that was from Washington it'll be due for another valve job soon? Oh and it needs new rubber.

It won't be my primary commuter but more of a toy for me. My truck gets me to where i need to go. Although I'll probably use it to commute if I have it. Can't leave a pretty thing like that pent up in the garage too much ya know?

I wish I had held on to some of the muscle cars I owned back in the late 60s/early 70s. However, the money they fetch today is a market anomaly. Successful baby-boomers have driven up values trying to relive past memories of a special time in America. I doubt a motorcycle will appreciate the same. Just in case, I put away a MV Agusta F4.
