Default Braking 101.

Sounds like you need to practice your braking in a parking lot. You have an irrational fear of locking up the rear. If rear locks up just stay on the brake.. Use to do it with my bmx bike as a kid all the time. If you need to swerve it's best to swerve then brake. I think the the ratio is more like 80/20 on your longish Busa.. Skip that advice just layer down..

Default I have always depended on the kindness of strangers

I'm a bit of an old chestnut myself but have only ridden standard/sport -bikes on good pavement. I agree with the "loose gravel" crowd about dragging the rear. What I have heard lately from more than one reliable source is the "low speed" use, which MSF will sometimes mention during one particular exercise involving a figure-eight in a box ... but depends on the instructor. After years of training myself to resist applying the rear first, it sounds like I should experiment with light pressure for some turning situations.

Thanks to all for the input.

Personally, I think Koreans should be illegal. Makes about as much sense as banning guns.

You would do well to pay attention asshopper, perhaps the next time you need to drop the anchor you'll react instinctivly and front brake/ ride around the ob-stackle in yo' path instead of hitting it and falling over.

You sure you didn't lay 'er down to avoid hitting the branch?

Yeah, because there's no way that Cho Seung-Hui was anywhere near as crazy or creative as Charles Whitman.

Default Re: When to Use Rear Brake Only?

There's only one problem with that - you run into the "Kpaul Syndrome": That situation of your target being more-overextended and further-into hock than yourself.

Like any good Predator, you should first stalk your victim and determine suitability before committing to a charge which cannot be recovered...............
