"but that does seem to say your chances of getting killed increase pretty sharply if you don't wear a helmet if you're talking about a thousand crashes, then you have 50 dead instead of 30."
-No it doesn't. If there are 1000 helmeted crashes and 30 die compared to 50 of the 1000 helmet-less crashes, that still does not support the case for helmets saving lives of a significant degree. It's still a ridiculously small advantage for the helmeted rider as accidents differ in every case and there is no guarantee a helmet would have save all 20 of those riders. "It makes you wonder if all the OTHER studies we pay for are this sloppy, and swallowed whole by the press." -They are. Look into gun studies and you will find some of the dumbest statements you could ever imagine. Again, I am not saying that you shouldnÂ’t wear a helmet. I wear one all the time, but it definitely does not support mandatory helmet laws and government legislation. |

All to prove how gay he isn't.
Because he isn't. Honest. Except on Sundays. When he wears a pretty sundress he stole from his sister's closet. But that's it. And the subscription to Playgirl. But that's for the articles. And when he makes out with his hand and thinks its John Stamos. Other than that, he is completely straight. 100% |

There are lies, damned lies, and statistics (thanks, Mr. Disraeli). If the study of economics teaches anything, it's to be very suspicious of anything obvious. Anything not obvious should be regarded with even greater suspicion.

From the second-to-last paragraph in the article:
"The researchers say that about 97 percent of motorcyclists involved in crashes since 2001 wore a helmet. " Is this really true? 97% of the motorcyclists who crashed in MI were wearing helmets? Doesn't this seem like an amazingly high % ?? I've often heard that nationwide, helmet use rates hovered around 50-55%. |
