Desert racers don't use "tubes". Haven't for years. They use "mousse" (foam) tubes which replace the inner tube so never get flats. The downside is that big, powerful dirt bikes can and do run so fast that the foam tubes melt from the heat generated as they flex. Once this happens the foam is no longer foam and becomes hard and takes up less space. The tire becomes "flat". I would think that the technology exists to make real tubes (with air) less prone to leak and therefore less prone to overheating and failure.
