No but he can tell his ass from a hole in the ground, which is refreshing.

Personally, I'd like to see them do well. And racing success could only help the brand. Problem here is that the XBs were never meant to be race replicas, so even with some modest success, I'm not overly optimistic about their chances long term. Hope I'm wrong, but I've got a feeling I'm not.
People, accept the Buells for what they are: Interesting, unique motorcycles with some rough edges. There probably is never going to be a Rotax-powered Buell, or even a 60-degree V-ROD-powered Buell. I hope they can refine that engine more, or develop a "new" one based on other in-house technology--pray for a V-ROD-based engine (but there doesn't seem to be any urgency to do that.) And when you think about it, is that so terrible? Does anyone really need 130+hp on the street? I mean, how many of us can really put it to any good use on the track? Hey, Buell, just make some of the vibration go away, squeeze a few more ponies from the lump, keep improving reliablity, and fix some of the other little niggles and I think you've got a really cool and different bike. Oh, and see what you can do about that price. |

Well, here in Canada an XB12R retails for $16,500, while a CBR600RR sells for $9,900 and a CBR1000RR sells for $14,999. People read about lack of dealer support for Buells, reliablity, etc, etc, so is it any wonder that they don't sell well. I attended a Buell demo here in Calgary on Saturday just past. It was the best organized demo I've ever taken part in, and the people were very helpful and friendly. Then, two of the bikes wouldn't start on the third ride. Yikes. Personally, I was quite surprised that the 12R I rode really didn't like to turn in on the corners. I realize that they are sensitive to suspension setup, (read all of the MO articles, for example) etc, but that shouldn't be the case. Nor was I expecting to compare it to its Japanese competition. I wanted something different for the back roads here. Well, like so many others, I'm off to the Ducati dealership for their demo days....

You want the "S." So does everybody who's not going racing.

I think it's great to see Buells kicking some ass. Kind of like doing more with less.
But why not take this "retro" engine craze all the way: Mount a Brough Superior motor in that excellent race chassis... Or something with hot-tube ignition? Maybe an atmospheric intake valve? Damn the pushrods, and full speed ahead!
