Default Where to go...no, not what you're thinking

KPaul--

I rode both Buells at Downtown Harley-D which is located for no good reason in Tukwila. Go there, tell 'em you want to ride both Buells. They will hand you the keys and let you come back when you're ready.

However....they're a H-D shop and they have an innate bias against sportbikes, even though they sell them! The salesman who handed me both sets of keys was unexcited about either bike and Buells in general. It was sorta bizarre.

Anyhow, go ride them. They're pretty cool (even though I bought an R1 instead).

Default Re: Cooling and reliability.

Another huge rationale for liquid is POWER! Water cooling keeps cylinder head temps down so higher compression ratios can be used without detonation. This is the primary reason Suzuki updated their GSXR's from air/oil to water in the late-80's. It added weight but they were getting killed by the water cooled bikes in HP.

If water cooling were for noise and emissions control only then you wouldn't see all of the fastest race bikes in the world using it. Hell, even my super-noisy, super-polluting TZ250 has water cooling.

My bad, I thought it said 20k each, not 2k each. Still I think the XB series is a major improvement in all ares.

Default Air vs. Water Cooling

I recall an interview with Erik Buell where he made the case for air cooling, especially in very hot climates. He used amoured vehicle performance in the WWII African Campaign as examples of his theories being correct. Anyone else remember that?

Thanks - I understand the math, but I was more interested in what kind of mileage folks are actually getting with their bikes.

Default Maitainence Schedule?

Can anyone tell me what the regular maitainence on a Buell consists of? Obviously no checking chain tension, oiling chain, valve adjustments. Is it just change the oil, check tire pressure and ride? My other choices include a ZRX1200, Speed Triple, or Monster 800. Now with the new XB12S, Buell is looking better and better. Hmmm... as much as I enjoy doing my own maitianence, it certainly would be nice to have less to do. Maybe a Buell wouldnt be half bad after all.

Default Just Do It!

Come on KPaul, take the plunge. Trade the Kwacker in for the big Buell. I'll bet you won't be disappointed. Then, you too will be saying "Singles and Twins Forever!"
