And another thing: BMW NA would rather be caught with a live boy AND a dead girl before being caught taking markdowns on MSRP...it just ain't their marketing thang.

Maybe adguy JohnnyB can give us some insight on this 'un...

They used to be pretty nice bikes, now between shytty F.I. surging and Buick surplus power brakes, topped off with your standard Teutonic shyt-headedness they can have them.

When I bought my F650GS Dakar I bought the ABS model but they charged me the non-ABS price. That amounted to $500 or $800, can't remember. Wasn't advertised though, the sales guy offered it up to me when I started talking price.

Just curious kowalke, could you turn off the ABS for dirt riding? VWW

Yep, mine was a 2002 and it had a switch by the gauges. You held that down for a few seconds and the ABS light would flash and go off. To turn it back on I believe you had to turn the bike on and off.

I only turned it off a couple times to try it and play around with the difference in stopping distance. I never took it off road in a capacity that required ABS to be off. That bike was to expensive, to pretty, and to heavy for any thing other than a hard packed dirt/gravel/fire roads, at least for my abilities. There was no way I was going to allow myself to drop that thing.
