You'd better just read about it. GSXRs make way more HP.

I've got some miles under my belt on a R1100RT. It's a nice, practical, good motorcycle. The fuel injection and transmission both suck but the dealer will tell you that's "fixed" now.

I still haven't gotten used to the funny turn signal switch though.

Default RT versus st4

Yo, Buz-

How did the RT stack up versus your st4? I'm especially curious about reliability.....Ducati not being famous for it, and BMW the reverse.

Default A bargain!

The features, flexibility and all-around superiority of the police beemer compared to the harley or kawi po-lice models make it a deal comparitivley. The Kawi is only a little cheaper and is worth doodley-squat after a few years of service, and they sucked 10 years ago. The harleys are MORE expensive and well...the Kawi is a beemer by comparison!

My Duc has 20,000 on it and I haven't had any problems at all. My friend's Beemer is also totally reliable.

He services his. I let the dealer do mine. It's expensive.

The Duc is much more on the sporting end, the Beemer on the touring end. The Duc is way faster and quicker handling. The Beemer is more comfy. I'm 5-10 and put a new seat and helibars on the Duc.

Fuel injection and tranny is better sorted on the Duc. The Duc also gets much better mileage 42-45 mpg vs. 35-40 for the BMW.

The Duc wins in the character dept and always draws a crowd even when parked next to the Beemer. My friend and I were on a trip to Monterey one time and came upon a bunch of ST1100 riders. They all crowded around the ST4 and ignored the RT.

They're both great bikes. Buy what you really want and stop analyzing!

Can't believe you've never had a Beemer, longride. Go and get a ride on one - but make sure it's for a long ride. An afternoon isn't enough; the differentness of Beemers soaks in slow. Nor is a sunny day the ideal sales jaunt: it's when the sky is the colour of lead and you have 200 miles to go yet STILL want to take the BMW rather than the car that you begin to understand their magic. Remember that old air force phrase the 'all-weather fighter?' That's what a Beemer is.
