I try not to get too hung up on a bike's looks (I like the 999, and even the Supersport), but damn, this thing ugly.

I wuz gonna say something about the PR hyperbole, but I see lots have beaten me to it. As far as Laverda copying their engine design, that too is firmly in the Laverda tradition, the 'legendary SFC' powerplant was nothing more than an inflated Honda 305 superhawk motor. Wot the heck, if it works.....plus ce change, etc. etc. or should that be, que sera sera?

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I don't read or write Eye-tallian, but Altavista has a translator program. If you run that back through the "Italian-English" program, it will be really silly.
I wonder how good the translation is? To read about Bob in English, check out my post in the story about the "American Sportbike" (as if that will ever happen!)

Is this thing just a rehashed Aprilia Falco????
As an admirer of all things Laverda, and 2 mates still with SFC 1000's I think they have a damn cheek with the name - go forward, not back. And that includes names

"The steel lattice is welded on to milled aluminium side plates."
If MO is correct and Laverda can do this then they are well ahead of the japanese. |

Yeah, I didn't catch that this 'article' had been written by the PR dept until after I finished reading it and scrolled back up to the top of the page. And after reading such... praiseful phrasing, I was starting to wonder if MO told it's staff writers to spit or swallow.
Since it was one of the PR guys, we *know* it was a swallow. |

Well, you never know...
I've seen pieces of steel welded to aluminum in a couple of different ways. One of them involved the blobbing of lots of weld material everywhere until things just sort of stuck together. Not very confidence inspiring. The other method involved welding two plates of dissimilar metals together with explosives. (Done in the materials science lab at New Mexico Tech) Neither technique seems very practical for motorcycle production, though... |
