My proposal is easier, I think.

What if the classes were done by hp? You could have a 150hp limit, but how you got there would be your own business, for example.

Easy to remember and you wouldn't have to worry about raising or lowering the cc limits you propose as it becomes clear that x, y or z option has a temporary advantage.

Yes, come back to The Great Unwashed of lower Elbonia. The mud has receded a bit - it's only about 3-feet deep now, except in the Capital.............

Default Re: My proposal

And how do you avoid the "cheater ECU" on this?

Scenario:

The WSB Authority decides to Dyno every bike before and after a race.

Brand H builds a motor capable of 175hp, but artificially restricts it to 150 using the ECU. However, they have enrichment tables that will allow the engine to make 175hp - only those are locked out unless you activate it by changing one bit in the code (conversely, you could use a switch to activate this).

Or, if one were really clever - use the minor differences in MAP from the effect of a Ram Air induction system to let the ECU "know" to use the higher-hp enrichment tables - Dyno will be stationary, no Ram Air effect = lower hp (and not just because of lack of that effect).

How would one overcome something like that? You would have to ASSUME everybody was "cheating", and write so many rules to close so many loopholes - "cheating" like this was absolutely RAMPANT in NASCAR through the '80s and '90s, and probably the same today - but they've got to get more and more clever, all the time (hollowed-out bolts and extra passages in carbs to get *just* a bit more air past that restrictor plate........)

Pointless bleating that you don't really believe? Say it isn't so.

Yeah, I could see where that might be a problem.

Yep you are right but you could just consider cheating is part of the game i.e. have one open class i.e. anything goes..I then have stock classes.
