I must be one of the "kooks" that you refer to. Trust is, that 20 year old engine in the Buell is a dog with a capital D. It's no better than anything in a cruiser that milwaukee makes. The VR engine debuted in 1994..get it....NEW engine. It doesn't make anywhere close to the power of Japanese or Italian inline 4's or twins. Both Suzuki and Honda make a NEW twin that could take the VR and wipe the floor with it. Sorry you feel the need to make excuses for HD but I think we "kooks" are right. Harley should stick to the cruiser market. Like I said before, it's not like they don't have the money to make a competitive sportbike...they just don't care enough to do it.
