I wonder how many people are riding in the desert right now who are refusing to support the AMA because of its helmet stance.

You both forgot they have a crappy magazine too. Although this month they have 2 really good stories, but I may quit anyway for lack of content.

I have had my moments when the AMA really got me angry over racing and other things. However I'm still a member and support them because they stick up for us in Washington, we probably would not be riding motorcycles in this country today if we did not have a voice. They are our voice.

Also, their Rapid Response works great! Ask Senator Allan Hurt in New Mexico

The AMA may not be all that it could be, but it and the BRC are the only real games in town. Besides, I really don't think it's a winnable fight. There's too many of "them" and too few of "us". They don't realize or care that we really all want the same thing.

10 years ago, I really didn't think I'd still be able to trail ride dirt bikes in the 21st century. We're too easy a target, and idiots on quads sure don't help.

Have to agree with the latter point. Here in Colorado, there have been several nasty and well publicised incidents of destruction by ORV's.

And public money drying up doesn't help a bit. There simply isn't enough to pay for adequate enforcement to catch and punish purely destructive activities. It's far cheaper (unfortunately) to simply close off areas, and collecting fines for "riding in a closed area" is much simpler than getting someone to testify that Individual XX was chewing up a hill side while his friends watched.

Is the answer to have the off highway riders act as part time vigilantes? I don't like the thought, but it is ONE alternative to flat closure.

If you see someone destroying the places that you care for, by all means turn them in, that maybe the only way to protect your riding future.

The small number of comments on this subject demonstrates apathy in the motorcycling community that will spell the death of recreational trail riding.
