If you think the competition in MotoGP is fierce, then you haven’t seen what it’s like to race CBR250Rs in Japan. In this video, shot during the Honda Racing Thanks Day 2016, Repsol Honda MotoGP stars Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa line up alongside some of the best CBR250R Dream Cup racers Japan has to offer, at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit.

Yes, CBR250R Dream Cup is a cute name, but the racing is anything but. It’s a spec series with some up-and-coming racers all competing on identical Honda CBR250R. And if you’re wondering how popular the series is, look at how huge the grid is in this video.

The actual racing starts at the 16:40 mark, but there are other things to pay attention to before that point, particularly the local racers taking selfies with Marquez and Pedrosa on the grid before the race! The video is all in Japanese, but you don’t need to know the language to figure out what’s going on. Oh, and in case you think you know how the race will end up, check out the fierce racing below to see how wrong you are.

This seems less like a dream and more like a nightmare for DP and MM. Why in the world would you risk an injury pushing to win mixing it up with a throng of, um, portly amateurs in front of almost no audience? A no win situation. Honda must have forced them to do this. Dumb.

Didn’t look to me like either was pushing hard at all. Not compared to what I’ve seen them do anyway.

      Just having fun.

Push hard and risk injury or lose face losing to amateurs. I agree they did the latter. Lose/lose proposition.

        • Branson

You can’t lose face if it’s not a “real” race and you’re not try….

          Oh nevermind.

It might be their livelihood as racers, and a huge risk of injury but motorcycle racing is still their passion. I imagine it’s a stress relief to go out on the track riding basic machinery without the demands of a MotoGP race weekend or test. Just go out and ride, get back to the fun of a track day.

93 pulled the bike and let them pass to have fun in the back. You can see that clearly. Otherwise he would have disappeared.

  • i think mm ran out of tire pushing to hard.
