A 49-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured after being hit from behind by a suspected intoxicated driver… who continued to drive home with the motorcycle stuck in the front bumper of his Jeep.

According to Mobile news station WKRG, the accident occurred at around 6 am on March 16. The motorcyclist was thrown from his bike but the car allegedly kept driving. Police were called and the injured rider was taken to a hospital. Two hours later, police found the Jeep with the motorcycle still attached, parked in a driveway about a mile away.

William C. Pruett, 29, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, first degree assault, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The motorcyclist was not identified; WKRG reported he was in critical condition.

Freaking drunks. This happened to a former boss of mine. He got run over at a stop sign by a guy in a big truck. Big difference is that his bike didn’t get hung up, but my boss got hung up whenever his gear got hung up on something under the truck. He was dragged for several miles before a roadblock stopped him in the next town. My boss had his ass cheeks rubbed off and had to undergo several major surgeries and skin grafts. And yes, he was ATGATT as he was a BMW rider. One of those guys.

Lucky he is that kind of guy.

      • JWaller

Absolutely. I’m glad I learned that lesson from him and not from my own experience. And my comment meant nothing negative. Just about any BMW rider I know is the kind of experienced, mature rider I want to be.

Drunks and people on their cellphones. Same thing. Same danger. And I’m speaking from 4X experience.

Just got rear-ended a few months ago – luckily we were in a car. Clear day, traffic backing up at a stop light and the back-up was visible from a mile away. Wife slowed almost to a stop but left room between us and car in front. As a motorcyclist, she checked the mirrors and said, “He’s not going to stop!” and headed for median.

Idiot never slowed, clipped our right rear quarter as we dove out of the way and CRUSHED the car ahead of us. His SUV was crushed in turn by the 3/4 ton farm pick-up that followed him in. Force of the impact shoved the car in front of us into two trucks stopped in front of her! Distracted driving has become a major hazard with the advent of ‘smart phones’ . . . Keep an eye on your mirrors!

Agreed. I’m an avid motorcyclist and have noticed the increase in distracted driving with today’s smartphones. It’s a full time job to scan the traffic while riding. I prefer to ride in rural areas these days. Sorry you got hit but I’m glad your wife steered away – may have saved your lives, or at least serious injuries.

I ride everyday, to and from work, here in Los Angeles, and have seen a rapid increase in the number of drivers on their phones (maybe one in four, conservatively)–and have been hospitalized three times in the last 12 years because of it.

My little Brother was hit by a driver who ran a traffic light;as the EMT’s loaded him into the Ambulance,he shouted to the “young punk” driver,”You’re lucky you broke my leg-if I could walk I’d kick your ass!!” The investigating officer told the driver,”…and I’d be inclined to LET him.”

Man, that idiot can’t claim he didn’t know. He was probably trying to steer his car with the handlebars. Hope the motorcyclist survives and recovers.

    Suspect?

One of another of the reasons why splitting lanes is a good thing. Let them run into the car/pickup instead

  • Old MOron

Here’s a thought. It’s a good thing that was a modern vehicle with soft bumper/crumple zone design. Must’ve saved the rider’s life. I hope he recovers.

    Suspect? Idiot PC news.
