This week’s video come from our correspondent Andrew Capone on the Isle of Man for the annual TT races. Capone sent us this video of the Suter MMX 500 two-stroke warming up ahead of the Senior TT. “I smell like Castrol R, and I like it,” Capone wrote, when he filed the video.

Days gone by. Smokem if you got em.

Imagine being let loose on an untried very high performance two stroke with fuel injection. This same problematic fuel injection which has been given nightmares to bimota and others in gp racing.  Then you take it to the isle of man , which puts a premium  on long periods of WFO riding. If it starts to nip up at 170 mph you had better hope it doesn’t go bang so badly it locks up solid.  If I were riding I would be listening so hard , and worring about every strange vibration.  Those riders must be crazy!

Guy’s who ride Isle of Man don’t worry about seizing 2 strokes! :)

I agree. IOM TT is dangerous enough without worrying about finicky two strokes..and the bike DNF in the Superbike race to boot.

    Badass!

  • William Marvin Parker

And its poor performance attest to why they’re gone…good riddance.

Kind of cold. I saw it as a story of a rich guy riding a cool bike a Isle of man.

      • spiff

So I just googled him, he is no slouch.

      • William Marvin Parker

Maybe. It IS a cool looking and sounding bike..problem is, four strokes have surpassed them performance wise..even with a few extra cubes, was no match for the Sperbikes..

        • spiff

Your not wrong, but I wonder how much of the results are on the engine, or a chassis that isn’t developed?

          • William Marvin Parker

Well Suter were good enough to be the Moto2 chassis of choice, so I’d say 2 stroke is an antiquated platform..

Wing-ding-ding……ah, yes, the good ol’ days of Yams, Kaws & Zooks. I remember them well….and fondly. The first time I got to ride an X-6, I came to know the full reality of the pucker factor, especially after riding Hondas of that era.
