The locals hate 'em. The business owners love 'em. The travelers, well, might not have to travel anymore to find a speed week they can enjoy. Mainstream biker rallies are going public relations crazy, even the little ones, and promoters are wising up to the package concept: bring together a few events, toss in some vendors and funnel cakes, cut a deal at a local hotel or two and Speed Week is born! The latest one to come around the bend is the upcoming Long Beach Speed Week. Produced by WorldMoto, and headlined by an alternative motorsports film festival, LBSW is a bike week with Hollywood style.

I think the LBSW was designed to piggyback on the incoming traffic for the AMA Supermoto finale that was scheduled to happen next to the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA.  As usual, the AMA Supermoto final location venue is confusing to pin-point, but I believe it has since moved to the Casino Morongo Resort in Cabazon, CA. Now titled the Troy Lee Supermoto Mayhem event at Casino Morongo, this race replaces what some of you may have had in your calendars as the Duel at the Docks. Same weekend, same racing action, new location. That’s all happening this second weekend in November.

Another upcoming and budding speed week for 2007 is the California Speed Week. Bolstering the AHDRA drag racing series, the Pacific Coast Nationals Flat Track Series and the 24th anniversary of the Love Ride. California Bike Week -believe it or not- is also happening this weekend.

In the past you'd have to drive, ride or trailer your bike half way across the country to find a shindig big enough to support a few days of riding, shopping, burning rubber, race watching, heavy drinking and good old fashioned girl watching. Look out Daytona, Sturgis, Laconia and Bonneville, there's local competition for the biker's bucks. Not a bad idea if you'd rather walk to the bar and stumble home.

Coming in 2008, Mojave Speed Week & the Hoboken Bike Fest!
