March 2009 recall notices

2009 BMW F800GS and Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 recalled
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Mar. 31, 2009
Kawasaki and BMW filed recall notices with the National Highway Traffic Safety Association in March 2009.

BMW of North America is recalling 2009 F800GS motorcycles because their axle shaft may not have been made under the correct specifications. The thickness of the axle shaft wall on the affected motorcycles may not be thick enough, causing the axle shaft to deform and possibly break.

BMW dealers will inspect the axle shaft assembly and either replace or repair the necessary components at no charge. BMW has not provided an estimate for the number of motorcycles affected by the issue, and has not provided an owner notification schedule with the NHTSA. Owners are asked to contact BMW at 1-800-831-1117 or the NHTSA at http://www.safecar.gov/.

Kawasaki Motors Corp. U.S.A. is recalling 2009 Vulcan 2000 motorcycles because the headlight low beams fail to comply with federal safety requirements. The headlamp assembly on the 2009 Vulcan uses multiple bulb and lens elements. Some of the lenses may be incorrectly positioned, providing inadequate lighting and failing to meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard no. 108.

Kawasaki says 18 Vulcan 2000 motorcycles are affected by the recall notice. Dealers will inspect the headlights of affected motorcycles and provide a replacement at no charge.
