H-D XR1200 rolls off the line
Six hundred orders for the high performance streetbike have already been placed across Europe. The XR1200 is being produced at Harley-Davidsons Kansas City, Mo. facility and will be shipped to Europe.
Harley-Davidson first presented the XR1200 in 2006 as a prototype at the Intermot international motorcycle exhibition in Cologne, Germany. The prototype proved to be a hit and development continued with the goal of producing a bike designed for the twists and turns of European roads.
The Motor Companys European branch held a prominent role in the development of the XR1200. The bike will feature styling and livery inspired by the XR750 with wide, black handlebars and semi-rear set footrests. The ergonomics were designed for the average European male rider with an unladen seat height of 30.5 inches.
The bike is powered by a 1200cc Evolution V-Twin engine with downdraft electronic sequential port fuel injection and an electronically controlled active intake system.
XR1200 is a new breed of Harley-Davidson motorcycle that was born out a fruitful collaboration between Harley-Davidsons European product planning team and our product development colleagues in Milwaukee, says John Lewis, director of marketing and product planning for Harley-Davidson Europe. Were all very proud of the result - a great looking, fine-handling Harley-Davidson performance streetbike designed specifically to meet the needs of many European riders. Above all, its tremendous fun to ride.
The XR1200s price will vary by location, but it will be priced to fit somewhere within the premium Roadster category.
