H-D Womens Day raises $67,000
Hundreds of women rode their Harleys through the streets of Daytona to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
As part of Daytonas Bike Week, the Harley-Davidson Womens Day Ride raised more than US$67,000. Though initially limited to 105 women, Harley-Davidson decided to allow more riders after seeing the number of requests to participate. Among the women taking part in the ride was Karen Davidson, the great-granddaughter of the motorcycle company's founders.
The success of the Womens Day Ride reflects the growth of our female riders over the past two decades, from four per cent in 1990 to 12 per cent today, says Davidson.
The money raised will be used to send children to MDA summer camps. One week at MDA summer camp costs $800 per child.
Women who raised more than $800 received a sterling silver and gold charm while those who raised at least $400 received a sterling silver charm. As well, the top three fundraisers also received a 105th anniversary Harley-Davidson jacket.
