Guidera wins NHRA drag opener
Guidera and his Mohegan Sun/Rocklin Motorsports Buell won all four heats with times under seven seconds to win the opening round of the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle series. He accomplished the same feat at the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals last season to become only the second rider to run in the sixes. His top speed was registered at 192.85 mph in the second round.
Guidera had times of 6.955, 6.944 and 6.943 seconds in the preliminary rounds. In the final, Guidera defeated the three-time series champ Andrew Hines of Screamin Eagle/Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson in 6.949 seconds to Hines time of 6.985 seconds. Hines also had sub-seven second times in all four heats. Hines top speed was 190.75 mph.
It was a disappointing loss, but making it to the finals in the first race of the season helps keep the teams morale up, Hines says. Last year at this time, we were struggling to find the right setup, so to start out of the box so competitively is great.
The next stop in the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle series is the Torco Racing Fuels 66 NHRA Nationals, June 5 to 8 in Chicago.
