By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Mar. 12, 2008
Aprilias factory racing team is ready to rip it up when the American Motorcyclist Association Supermoto Unlimited season kicks off in April.

The Factory Aprilia Rip It Energy Fuel racing team, with racer Darryl Atkins, will begin its title defence in the AMA Supermoto season San Diego. Atkins will be racing on an Aprilia SXV 5.5.

Atkins has fully recovered from a broken arm suffered in practice before the second last race of the 2007 season in Galveston, Tex. He was in second place in the individual rider standings when the injury ended his season. He finished in sixth place.

2007 Unlimited class champion Benny Carlson will be switching to the 450 class competing on an Aprilia SXV 4.5.

Successfully competing in the AMA Pro series is extremely important to Aprilia, as it provides us with the opportunity to showcase the various performance capabilities of our SXV line, says Rick Panettieri, Aprilia brand manager. These bikes incorporate a whole series of innovations designed to improve reliability, decrease weight and increase performance.

The AMA Supermoto series begins April 11 to 12 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.
